Petit Pinotage 2016 Ken Forrester wines Stellenbosch
This is the second of my 12 different pinotages.
It was given 12 hours to muscle up in a decanter and on the first pour, it provided an instant hit of blackcurrants with joyous hints of spice and a wee inference of Latakia tobacco (seriously….).
In the mouth , it didn’t have the usual forward dusty dusky hints, it was all fruit, well balanced with a smidgeon of tannin. Given time, this grew and grew showing that it’s a well balanced and crafted example, possibly moved towards the fruity end of the scale to enhance its saleability as a really dry pinotage can put a lot of folk right off if all they’re used to is jammy, plum pudding-esque Aussie Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Purchased from Oddbins at around a tenner, this is a definitive hit.
