The Ruins Bon Cap Wines
Pinotage 2013
Formerly available from Appelation Wines, Edinburgh

I swirled this around in the decanter, expecting a lusty burst of red fruits with perhaps a hint of the dusty earthiness that I find so characteristic of a cracking Pinotage.
All I got was garbled musty damp earth.
The colour was great and it clung to the sides of the glass as it swirled but when it hit my mouth, it was a rock bottom disappointment. Where was the fruit? All I got was a vague hint of old grapes and a bitter aftertaste like burnt almonds.
I set it aside and gave it another day in the decanter hoping that it would improve.
Nope, it was an absolute dud and I struggled through a second glass desperately trying to find something that I liked. I failed and this has gone down the drain instead. It was a bin end but at theend of the day, binning was all it was good for
