Fronton de Oro Tradicional tinto 2016 6 euros
Having previously enjoyed a range of white wines in the Canary islands (Lanzarote - malvasia grapes), when we were on Gran Canaria for diving, sampling the local product was a must-do.
There was a lot of disappointment but this wine is worth the effort - produced using Listán Negro and Tintilla grapes, it has a deep and intense character with a dark and brooding purple depth.
On the nose, it reeks of tannin and spice yet it is smooth and balanced, leaning towards a rustic cabernet sauvignon but always with a hint of other-worldliness.
